Son of Albert & Mary Dowell Burgess. Husband of 1) Mary Jane Mendell, m. April 9, 1857, & 2) Isabelle McCutcheon, m. about 1902.

From FAG Contributor "Brian Collies" - "Willis the third child, went off to the Civil War on the Union side in place of someone else. At the time if a person had money they could hire another man to go in their place. Willis got $1,000 for going to war and came home sound and healthy. With the money he bought land in Peoria Co., IL and kept buying land. He became one of the largest landowners in Peoria Co., IL and was a very rich man."
