On Monday, January 4, 2021, Charles Vincent Abate Jr. (Chuck), loving husband and father to five children, passed away at the age of 72.
Chuck was born on January 28, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Charles Vincent Abate Sr and Joyce Abate. Beloved husband of Charleen Huth Abate, who he married on June 9, 2003, and by a previous marriage to the late Kathy Benoit Abate. Also survived by his five children, Chuck (Jamie), Scott (Tasha), Charlie (Lindsay), Mike (Dawn), Cherie (Dr. Farhad), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Vincent Abate Sr., and his mother, Joyce Smith Abate.
He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as a switchman and retired in 1992 with 25 years of service. In his younger years, he was a volunteer fire fighter with the Harahan volunteer fire department. Chuck had a passion for L.S.U., horses, fast cars, playing cards, fishing, and hosing the sidewalk. He was a kind-hearted man who never met a stranger, and could make friends with anyone. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, compassionate spirit, and generosity. He truly loved living on the water and spending time with family and friends.
