Sandy was raised in Memphis, where, from an early age, she developed her vocal talents, including performing (along with her sister, Betty) in a trio that often sang backup for various recording artists at Sun Studios. Sandy and the trio landed the opportunity after successfully taking first place at a local high school talent show which featured a number of budding musicians, including a notable, but pre-famous singer by the name of Elvis Presley. Her love of singing would later lead to her meeting the love of her life when she was asked to sing with a young dental student and piano player for a party at the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis. That encounter began their love story, spanning over five decades, facing life’s challenges and enjoying many, many blessings together. During her time in Slidell, Sandy assisted Joe early on as he built his dental practice, and then once he acquired further help she shifted her work toward raising their four children and remaining active in her church and community where she also developed her other artistic love – sketching and painting. To this day, her artwork can be found in any number of homes in the Slidell area, as well as some public buildings and on the iconic Slidell Water Tower. Another significant focus of her life revolved around her partnership with her husband and many others in serving the people of Belize, C.A. for over 25 years as part of Dos Amigos Dental / Medical Missions, an organization that continues to this day. As much as these other things, what also marked her life and endeared her to so many was her sense of humor, her infectious laughter and love of other people that drew many good people to her – and her to them. She will be missed by many.
Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, Terry Brown, her sister, JoAnn Brown, and her parents.
