Opal Irene Matthews, 92, Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed from this life Friday, January 8, 2021. Opal was born in Marble, Arkansas, on November 29,1928, to Ernest Applegate and Edna (Williams) Applegate.
Following her graduation from High School, Opal met the love of her life and was married to Kenneth Matthews, on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947. They were able to enjoy 70 years of marriage prior to Kenneth's passing in 2017.
Opal was a bookkeeper and worked for Kerr Glass for more than 30 years. She loved to trout fish with Kenneth, working in her garden, and reading. Opal was a faithful member of the CrossPoint Assembly of God and she and Kenneth were vital in the establishment of CrossPoint. They work in the Children's Ministry for over 30 years. Working with puppets and helping with the Special Needs Children was only a small part of their dedication. Opal could be ornery at times, but that was just her way. She loved her family dearly and cherished the times she could spend with them, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Opal's wonderful attitude and beautiful smile will be missed by both family and friends.

Opal is survived by her daughter and husband; brother and wife; two grandchildren and spouses; six great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Opal will be Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 10am, in the Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation for Opal will be Monday, January 11, 2021, from 12 noon until 8pm.
