Milton Price Crook, Jr., the eldest of six children, was born to Marie and Milton Price Crook, Sr. After finishing high school in Chattanooga, he entered Tennessee A & I State University. Shortly after entrance, however, he was called to serve in the Armed Forces. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he continued his education. Majoring in Political Science, Crook transferred to the University of California at Berkley where he earned his Bachelors and Masters of Arts degrees. He began his teaching career when he was appointed teaching assistant at Berkley. He later met and married Jacqueline Larkins of Beaumont, Texas. The couple later had one son. Crook's profession continued with appointments as Professor of Political Science at Lincoln in Pennsylvania; a South Africa assignment; Texas Southern University; Prairie View A & M College (now Prairie View A & M University); and Atlanta University where he retired in 1986. Crook and his family were members of Atlanta's Union Baptist Church. It is also noted that Crook was the uncle of NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham.
