CHARLES MELVIN ASH

Ash, Charles Melvin, 1884 - 1946,

Charles Melvin Ash was the son of Charles and Magdalena Austen Ash of Hampton Township. Born after the 1880 census, his age on the 1900 census does not match the date of birth on his tombstone.

In 1910 with his parents both dead, he and his wife Bessie are living in Etna with his mother's brother Charles Austen on Grant Avenue.

He was working as a clerk in a switch works, and the young couple had 2 children, Marie and Charles.

His World War I draft card is very difficult to read, but the name Austen Bros. appears.

In 1920 wife Bessie appears in Pittsburgh as a divorced mother of 2.

Charles may have been remarried and living in Detroit that year. More research is needed.

I am the great granddaughter of Charles Ash and I noticed you had his father listed as Charles also. This is Charles Melvin Ash Sr. and his parents were Melvin Byers Ash and Magdalene (Maggie) Austen Ash and his birthday is February 27, 1884, according to our family bible.
