Dorris Edward Barnett

Dorris Edward Barnett, age 97 of Paris, TN, died Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

He retired after many years from Holley Carburetor in Paris. He was a graduate of Cottage Grove School and Tolers Business College. Dorris was a WWII Army veteran, serving from 1944-1946 in the I&R platoon, Headquarters Co, 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division. He saw action in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and served in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star. In 2008, Dorris was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal during a return visit to France, Belgium, and Germany. He was Methodist by belief.

Dorris was born September 27, 1923, in the Como community of Henry County, TN, to the late Charlie E. Barnett and the late Grace Duke Barnett Gossett.

He is survived by his daughter, Rita (Gary Houston) Barnett of Nashville, TN; one stepson, Gary Steve Hicks of Puryear, TN; and special friends, Judy Ward and Polly of Springville, TN.

In addition to his father and mother, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Gossett; one stepson, Larry Hicks; one sister, Dorothy Veazey; and three brothers, James Dudley Barnett, Elroy Barnett, and Thomas Barnett.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. A chapel-side service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 1:30 pm at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads Rotunda in Wildersville, TN.

Military honors and burial will follow the service in the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.
