Cornelia E. Spivey was married to Dr. James Goree Ashford on May 2, 1854 in Walker County. Both died young leaving two children, Mollie Beck Ashford Reeves and James Goree Ashford. Their children were raised by their grandmother, Mary L. "Polly" Goree Ashford in Grimes County after James and Cornelia died.

Her siblings were: Rebecca Ann Spivey Smither, James Sidney Spivey, Mariah Obedience Spivey Ball Gambrell, Eugene L. Spivey, Clara Athena Spivey, Wilbur F. Spivey who died 1862 in the Civil War and buried somewhere in Warrenton, Va., William F. Spivey who died in 1863 from wounds at the Battle of Bayou Fordoche, La. - burial place unknown, and Thomas E. Spivey buried somewhere in Natchittoches Parish, La.

We have family bible records and the History of Walker County. If the grave ever had a marker, it is no longer there. Because good records were not kept, we do not know where in the cemetery she and her husband are buried.
