Local Deaths Miss Gladys Allen--Miss Gladys Connor Allen, 75, died early Monday morning at a local hospital where she had been a patient for several years. She was a native and lifelong resident of St Joseph.

published in the St. Joseph News-Press, St. Joseph, Missouri, Tuesday, February 17, 1970, pg. 2

Note: I believe this woman lived most of her life in the State Hospital in St. Joseph. She was probably the daughter of JAMES T. AND BARBARA ALLEN. I can find then in the 1900 Census in St. Joseph along with children Arthur (18), William (16), David T. (7), Charlotte (5), and Gladys (2). Because of their fairly common names, I can't reliably find them after this census. I believe William married and later lived in Oklahoma, where he probably died. I couldn't find the parents' death certificates in the Missouri State archives. I believe that Gladys was actually born in December 1896, and that somehow the date of birth of her sister Charlotte (August 1894) wound up in the State Hospital records for Gladys.
