Born in the Abbott homestead in the town of Annsville, Sept. 9, 1842, a son of the late John W. and Minerva Abbott, he was a descendant of a long line of soldiers. His father, who later served in the War of 1812, had settled the homestead in 1806, coming to this locality from Vermont. His great-grandfather was a veteran of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War.
At the age of 18 Mr. Abbott enlisted in Company L, 117th Engineers, and served during the Civil War. He was promoted to the rank of corporal. He witnessed the surrender at Appomattox Court House and also recalled a conversation with Abraham Lincoln at Richmond shortly before the Great Emancipator was assassinated.
Fifty years ago Mr. Abbott married Alice R. Joslin of New York Mills. She died in 1920.
He was engaged in business in this city until his retirement eleven years ago.
He leaves two daughters, Misses Mary C. and Genneiva P. Abbott, and a sister, Miss Jane Abbott, of this city.

Frank L. Abbott, G. A R. man, and former merchant of Rome, died Monday evening at age of 88 years.
He was born on Coal Hill, Taberg, son of John and Minerva Abbbott.
