Bennie will be remembered for his love of nature and outdoor sports, particularly rabbit hunting and boating. He loved to be on the water and between his professional life and his hobbies he was often found outside. Above all, however, Bennie loved his family. He took great delight in his growing family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving companion of 29 years, Shannon Coates; his sons: Gerald “Moochie” Shepherd (Kacneis), Dustin Bailey, and Benjamin Shepherd (Kayla); his daughter Errin Shepherd (Jose); his brother James Shepherd (Virginia); his grandchildren: Arriana, Alyssa, Ciara, Ellie and two more sweet ones on the way; and his loving friend and former spouse, JoAnne Shepherd. Bennie was predeceased by his parents and his sister Shirley Thompkins.
A walk-through visitation will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021 at Welch Marks Funeral Home in Warsaw with a graveside service to follow at the Grant’s Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Montross at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Lionel Richards officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to honor Bennie’s brave fight to the American Cancer Society at 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or to www.cancer.org.
