James Patton Simpson married Mary Ann Foster, 27 Sep 1846, the daughter of George Washington and Sarah Independence (Watkins) Foster. She was born 15 October 1830 - died 30 March 1853. They had one daughter, Sarah Foster Simpson 16 Dec 1851 who died 26 May 1852 and is on the same stone with her mother. After the death of Mary Ann, James married Cornelia Foster 26 July 1855, the daughter of Ephraim and Jane Lytle (Dickinson) Foster.
