CHILLICOTHE -- Mary Helen Tighe, 65, of 1107 W. McDowell St. died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1996, at her home.

Born Dec. 26, 1930, in Tarrant City, Ala., to Lorimer D. and Winifred Rutledge Elwell, she married Robert W. Tighe on Oct. 11, 1953, in Dunlap. He died Feb. 12, 1996. Surviving are one son, David S. of Bloomington; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Debbie) Bond of Washburn and Mrs. Greg (Diane) Weaver of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Lorimer D. Elwell Jr. of Springfield, Va., and Jerome H. Elwell of Chillicothe; and two sisters, Mrs. Fran (Dorothy) Thompson of Edelstein and Mrs. Mike (Sarah) Gallagher of Peoria.

She graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in 1951. She worked as a registered nurse at Spring Valley Hospital and later worked at Lacon Clinic in Lacon. She then did insurance physicals at Porta-Medic for three years. After she retired from nursing in 1986, she worked as a volunteer at Methodist Medical Center.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Weber Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Harrison will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Dunlap.

Memorials may be made to her church.
