Larry Dean Holman, 76, of Danville, Illinois, passed away at his home on January 23, 2021 with his wife and youngest daughter beside him.

He was born in Danville, Illinois on July 28, 1944 to Henry LeRoy Holman and Nellie Leota Pate. He was the youngest of eight children, Anna Lou, Virginia, Edward, Donald, Evelyn, Winifred and Charles.

In 1962 Larry graduated from Catlin High School, Catlin, Illinois. After starting his family, he went on to Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Missouri and Lincoln Christian College, Lincoln, Illinois where he worked on Biblical studies. He ended up stopping his formal schooling so he could provide for his family but he continued to study informally and taught many Sunday School classes. He touched hundreds of lives with his strong faith in God. Larry baptized many people including 2 of his grandsons, a sister-in-law and a great-niece.

When his children were very young and Larry and Dixie only had one car, Larry rode his bike to Olin factory in Indiana from their house on Stewart Street in Danville. Larry also worked at the State School in Lincoln, Illinois and then transferred into the Illinois prison system as a Correctional Officer in Lincoln and then transferred when Danville built the prison. He retired in 1996 after 22 years years of service. Larry enjoyed his retirement years where he and Dixie started up their own country dance hall. He was an avid runner, bike rider and enjoyed going to garage sales. Larry was deeply involved in the Southside Church of Christ where he was an elder, church treasurer, teacher and friend.

Larry and Dixie met each other in Catlin. Dixie said they knew each other their whole lives. They married on September 11, 1962 in Danville, Illinois. Together they raised 4 children, Laury, David, Cindy and Rachel. They have 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Larry is survived by Dixie, his wife; his children, Laury (Jim) Hubrich, Waynesville, Illinois, David (Pam) Holman, Bismarck, Cindy (Roger) DeMoss and Rachel Jensen, Danville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his sister, Evelyn Simpkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six of his siblings, and an infant grandson.

Graveside services will be at Oakridge Cemetery, 906 W. Vermilion St., Catlin.
