Husband, father, artist, veteran. Rudolph "Rudy" Marinacci was born to Italian-American immigrants Michael Marinacci and Maria Stella (Calabrese) Marinacci in Tacoma, Washington. He graduated Stadium High School in 1946, and went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean War as an infantryman in the 40th Division, seeing action and earning the Combat Rifleman badge before being granted a hardship discharge to be by his dying father's side.
Rudy went to attend Chouinard Art Institute (later CalArts) in Los Angeles, where he met Barbara Kamb. They married and settled in New York, and then moved to Santa Monica, California in 1961. He pursued a long career as an advertising graphic designer, and his creations were featured in many prominent campaigns of the Sixties and Seventies. He was also a fine artist who painted in oil and watercolor, and a co-author of several nonfiction books. Rudy eventually retired to Santa Cruz, California, and died of cancer at the Palo Alto VA Hospice, aged 87.
Mr. Marinacci was survived by his beloved sisters Eleanor and Gloria, his ex-wife Barbara, his sons Michael and Christopher, his daughter Ellen, and his nephew Dante. His remains were cremated, and scattered along the Pacific surf that he had loved during his life.
