son of John Cargile. Sr (1719-1794) of Greene County, GA and Catherine Reneau Cargile (1726-1774) John Sr. served in the Revolutionary War in the 11th and the 15th Virginia Regiment of Continental Army under Col. Daniel Morgan and Captain Porterfield. One of four brothers who moved from Greene County, Georgia to then Randolph County, Ga. Along with Brothers Charles, Thomas and Jason, was involved with the formation of Monticello as the county seat and helped establish the town. John Cargile Jr. was married three times. First wife, , second wife Tabitha Babbs, married in Greene County, April 14, 1800, Third wife Lavinia Washington married Dec 17, 1817 in Jasper County. John is the father of eight children.
