Donald Ray Akin, 77, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Lord Akin; parents, James Horace and Carolyn Jones Akin; and brother, Roy Akin. Mr. Akin is survived by mother-in-law, Imogene Lord of Madison, GA; aunt, Betty Jones Cagle of Woodstock, GA; sister-in-law, Betty Stewart of Madison, GA; several cousins; and his New Hope Baptist Church family in Lawrenceville. Mr. Akin was born on December 8, 1943 in Atlanta, GA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and Air Force, and was retired security from the military. Mr. Akin was a licensed minister, a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, and a member of Southeastern Railroad museum. He loved collecting stamps. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Lawrenceville with Rev. Ted Dunagan officiating. Mr. Akin will lie in state at 2:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends at that time. Interment with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. on February 11, 2021 at GA National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
