Born February 16, 1914, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Willie Steele Ball.
Jessie was a pioneer among women. She not only graduated high school but completed a four-year college degree. Her work experiences ranged from teaching to being a buyer for various clothing stores in the Beckley area. Jessie enjoyed her time at Camp Lightfoot; camping at Lake Sherwood and Blue Bend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; loved to quilt; and make dresses for little girls in other countries. She was a member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church and she cherished her friends there.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Virgil M. Beckett; her son-in-law John Lynn Myles; a great granddaughter Jessica Flaim; her brother Ted Ball; and five sisters Betty DeJarnet, Jackie Ball, Muriel Anderson, Pansy Martin, and Wilma Mays.
Survivors include her daughter Elaine Myles Withrow (Ronald); three grandchildren Johnny Myles (Kathy), Cheryl Flaim (Tim), and David Myles (Pam); three great grandchildren Jennifer Spencer (Daniel); Jonathan Myles (Hannah), and Jason Myles (Camille); six great great grandchildren Madison and Jacob Spencer, Beckett and Kase Myles, and Abby and Carter Myles; and two sisters Cathleen Goodall and Jean Carol Nash..
A private service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, at the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church. The services may be watched on the church’s Facebook page at MaxwellHillChurch.
