Born April 17, 1937 in Jamaica-Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Jacob and Gudrun Hansen Christensen. He was a graduate of Barrington College and Gordon-Conwell Seminary. On July 25, 1959 he married his best friend and love of his life, Joan (Elms). He served as a pastor in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York. He retired from First Baptist Church of Port Jervis, New York in 1992. He was elected to the Conservative Baptist Association national board of directors. Even in retirement, his life-long passion for pastoring led him to serve in several interim pastoral positions as well as preaching while wintering in Leesburg, FL and while at home in Port Jervis, even as recently as July of this year.
He leaves behind his very beloved wife, Joan and their three greatly loved sons and their families, his brother, Rev. Dr. Jack Christensen and his wife, Edna of Swannanoa, NC; six grandchildren, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by the numerous people whom he served over his 54 years of ordained pastoral ministry. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Marie Tansi and Elinor Peckham.
