Daughter of Lester and Pearl (Holcomb) James.
On December 15, 1951 during a huge snowstorm in La Porte, Indiana, she married Harold LeRoy Birchfield who preceded her in death in 1999. Surviving are her children, Jerry (Susan) Birchfield and Tammy (Dale) Sass, both of La Porte; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bruce H Birchfield; grandson, Joshua Birchfield; granddaughter, Rachael Birchfield; great-granddaughter, Oaklynn; and her siblings.

Frances worked in her home as a beautician in her earlier years. She ran her home and enjoyed tending her vegetable garden with her husband. Frances attended La Porte Missionary Church and enjoyed the fellowship she had with the quilting ladies group. She also enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting. Frances dearly loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at La Porte Missionary Church on a future date. Frances and Harold will be buried together during a private family service at Pinhook Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be held for Harold.
