ATHOL – Harriet L. (Achorn) Glenzel-Garrison, 81 of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, died peacefully Friday morning, January 29, 2021 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

She leaves her husband, Alfred J. Garrison; two daughters, Suzanne Carpenter and her husband Rick of Winchendon, and Kathy Tourigny and her husband Ross of Rindge, NH; three sons, Eric Glenzel of Kenai, AK., Michael Glenzel and his wife Tricia of Westfiled, MA. and Matthew Glenzel and his wife Danielle of Eugene, OR. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Seth, Levi and Sage Tourigny, Christine, Ryan and Denali Glenzel, Evan, Thea and Drew Glenzel, Emily (Glenzel) Isaac, Eli and Jenna Glenzel, Gabriella Parker, and James DeGrange. She is also survived by her step children, Alan Garrison and his wife Cheryl of Clovis, CA, Hugh Garrison and his wife Sally of Auberry, CA. and Jeffrey Garrison and his wife Nikki of Clovis, CA, six step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

Her first husband of 51 years, Edward “Jim” Glenzel died in 2012 and she was preceded in death by her brothers Bill McDougall and Larry Achorn and her sisters Gwynne Lawrence and Jacki Kizer.

She was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on July 13, 1939, daughter of Lawrence and Blanche (Sands) Achorn and lived most of her life in Winchendon. She was a graduate of Murdock High School and Leominster Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed a career in the healthcare field as a Certified Activity Director, retiring from Birchwood Care Center in Fitchburg.

Harriet was a former member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church, Winchendon and enjoyed many years of volunteering there, as well as with the former Teen Challenge Girls Academy in Fitchburg and also with Gardner VNA Hospice Program. Harriet’s greatest joy was her family. She loved the Ocean especially Ocean Park, Maine and Cape Cod and she spent several years wintering in Florida and in Clovis, CA.

Calling hours in Stone – Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Sunday February 7, 2021 from 1 to 3 P.M.

Masks and social distancing will be required.

Funeral Services will be private but will be streamed and may be viewed on the funeral home website Monday, February 8, 2021.

Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon
