Times-News, 2 Feb 2021:

Kermit Lee Douglas, 80, passed away in Parker, Arizona on January 19, 2021. He was born in Hazelton, Idaho on September 10, 1940 to M.W. (Rusty) and Madeline Douglas. He graduated from Valley High School in 1958. He joined the army and was stationed in San Francisco before being sent to Korea. Upon returning home he joined the family business, Douglas and Sons. He took pride in helping his father and brother grow the business. They held the bus contract for Valley School District for more than 50 years. He was known for always being available to help whenever needed. The community and people of Valley were important to Kerm. He served as a city councilman and as mayor of Hazelton. He was also a member of the local Lions Club.

He married Marla Gunderson and they had a son, Jeff Douglas. In 1963 he met and married Norma "Kay" Johnson and together they raised their children, Colleen and Dan. Kerm loved watching Dan play ball and Colleen perform with the drill team. Many of his favorite memories were of the time spent at the family cabin north of Ketchum, vacations with his brothers and sisters-in-law, and most recently his time spent in Quartzite, Arizona.

Kerm loved living in Hazelton and considered those who lived there his friends. He was instrumental in helping put in a new water and sewer system, the senior living facility, and the affordable housing units for farm workers. Spring, summer, and fall were dedicated to working but winter meant snowmobiling. Trips to the south hills, Stanley, Yellowstone, and the cabin where weekend norms. In the 1980's Kerm got into car racing. He could be found at the Magic Valley Speedway every weekend during the racing season. He golfed at Pleasant Valley Golf Course for many years as well. Most recently, he enjoyed going for rides in his side-by-side. With Kay at his side and their dog Charlie along for the ride, they spent many a day out exploring both the desert and the mountains.

Kermit is survived by his wife Kay Douglas, son Jeff Douglas, daughter Colleen (Steve) Lakey, granddaughters Kara (Josh) Przybos and Alyse Douglas, grandsons Michael (Kara) Lakey and Hunter Douglas, great grandchildren Evelyn and Kolbi, and sisters Shirley Koontz, Gail Quinn, and K Denton. He is preceded in death by his parents M. W. and Madeline Douglas, a brother Jay Douglas, son Dan Douglas, and grandson Jeramy Kienzle.

A graveside service and celebration of life are planned and will be announced when weather permits.
