Alene “Jean” Vandercook Taylor, 94, passed away peacefully at The Health Center at Richland Place in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, one day shy of her 95th birthday.

Jean was born in Portland, Tennessee, to the late Simon Vandercook and Myrtle Hodges Vandercook. She was a 1944 graduate of Litton High School. She married Bernard “Chuck” W. Taylor, Jr. on July 20, 1944. She was a longtime resident of Hendersonville, Tennessee, attended First Baptist Hendersonville, was a member of Henderson Flower Club, volunteered at Nashville Memorial Hospital and was a former member of Bluegrass Country Club. She was an excellent cook and loved to prepare the most wonderful meals for her family, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bernard W. Taylor, Jr.; brother Henry Vandercook; step-mother Bethel Vandercook; half-brother Jack “J.D.” Vandercook; half-sister Helen Vandercook Thomasson; special aunt Fannie “Auntie” Vandercook.

She is survived by her two sons, Bernard W. (Diane) Taylor III of Blacksburg, VA, and Richard L. (Jan) Taylor of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren Carolyn (Jason) Taylor Payton of Watkinsville, GA, Richard L. (Gladys) Taylor, Jr. of Cocoa, FL, Kathleen Taylor of Alexandria, VA, and Lindsey (Travis) Taylor Brinton of Charlottesville, VA; seven great grandchildren Abigail Payton, Elijah Payton, Mia Taylor, Levi Brinton, Seth Brinton, Marie Brinton, and Nora Brinton; half siblings Glenda Vandercook Mays of Goodlettsville, TN, and Jerry (JoAnn) Vandercook of Cross Plains, TN.
