Hettie married Claude Elbert Holt on 16 July 1906 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. Hettie's family was living in Ada, Oklahoma at the time but relocated to Eddy County, NM shortly after the marriage.
Claude and Hettie spent the first few years of the marriage in Fannin County, TX where their oldest daughter, Mary Florence, was born. The next year they moved to Hope, Eddy County, NM where Hettie's family had relocated to. While living in Hope, Claude Elbert Jr. and Robert Howard were born. The following spring they moved to Garvin, Ok where Cecil Lee was born. Around the time Claude's mother passed away they moved back to Fannin County, Texas for a few years. When Claude became ill, Hettie loaded him up in a wagon and took him and the kids back to Hope, Eddy County, NM while she was pregnant. Everette Ernest (Shorty) was born shortly after they arrived. While still living in Hope, Owen McCabe was born, but passed away the next year during the diphtheria outbreak along with his brother Robert Howard, age 11. Elsie Dell was born two years later and Ruth Bernice almost three years after that. A few years later the family moved approx..30 miles east to the east side of Artesia, NM. They spent the remainder of their life in Artesia.
Hettie's husband passed away six years before her on 6 June 1967.
