Elizabeth was one of seven children. Her father was a grain dealer. and the family moved around to a number of different places during her childhood. She married Crayton Brooks, who was a minister, in 1892. One daughter, Lida Ruth, was born in 1893. They lived in Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Missouri again. Their daughter married William Southworth, the manager of several baseball teams, and lived in Columbus, Ohio. Elizabeth was staying with her daughter when she died--her husband Crayton still listed Moberly, Missouri as his home. After her death, Crayton remarried to Bessie Gonter. Lida Ruth died in 1936, with one son, William, surviving her.
