Death of John D. Ackley, Sr.
LOWELL, May 6- John D. Ackley, Sr., died at his home here at 4:30 this morning. He was of a family of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Ackley, former residents of this place. His father died in Rome at the home of David Ackley, at the age of 102. Mr. Ackley was born in Lowell in 1816 and except for time spent in boating on the Erie canal, nearly all his life had been passed in the vicinity of where he died. For 60 years he had resided in the some house. He suffered a severe attack of pneumonia five years ago and was left with much impaired health. For ten months he had been confined to his bed, and much of the time for the past two weeks he had been in a semi-conscious state. Mr. Ackley was married three times and is survived by his third wife and five children. Mrs. Benjamin Thorp of Durhamville, Mrs. Robert Lewis and Miss Ada Ackley of Lowell, Mrs. Taber Samson of Vernon and John D. Ackley of Rome, two brothers and one sister, Peter of West Camden and William Ackley of Minnesota, and Miss Jane Bishop of Bouckville. Mr. Ackley was a esteemed member of the Lowell M. E. Church and a respected citizen and neighbor. The funeral will be held at his late home at 1 p.m. Thursday.
