Donald Franklin Prillaman, 81, of Earlysville, Virginia, left this earthly place to join our Lord on February 4, 2021.

Don was born September 13, 1939 in Henry, Virginia, to Franklin and Viola Prillaman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two younger sisters, Sharlene Prillaman Ramsey and Janice Prillaman Scott.

Don spent his early years on a small family farm in Henry, Virginia, and his early jobs included working on the docks at Philpott Lake and then at Bassett Furniture Industries. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley, in 1960, and their marriage lasted 60 years. Don started his insurance career with Peoples Insurance Company, which through several mergers is now TransAmerica. He retired early and turned his life-long passion as a New York Yankees fan into a second career. With his son Jeff, Don opened Cavalier Sports Cards in 1991 and has served sports collectors in Central Virginia since then. Over the last 15 years, Don was an active member at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and on the Finance Committee. He also volunteered at the Earlysville Exchange.

Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley Haley Prillaman of Earlysville, Virginia, and their three sons and their families: Jeff and his wife Mindy of Charlottesville, Virginia; Bill and his wife Kristin of Vienna, Virginia; and Bryan of Orlando, Florida. Don loved spending time with his eight grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Haley, Luke, Mark, John Paul, Sarah, and Lauren, and leaves behind numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned for a later date when family and friends can gather in a celebration of Don’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to your choice of either Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, 550 Buck Mountain Road, Earlysville, VA 22936; LOVE Inc, 198 Spotnap Road, Suite C-1, Charlottesville, VA 22911; or the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, 1207 Harris Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
