Rites Set Monday for John L. Ashe
Funeral services for fort Worth businessman John L. Ashe, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Broadway Baptist Church, with entombment in Greenwood Mausoleum. The long time resident died yesterday in a hospital.
The founder and past president of John L. Ashe Inc. men's clothing stores, he began with a shoe department in the A. & L. August store in the 800 block of Main street in 1920.
A native of Guntown, Miss., he arrived here shortly after serving in the Navy during World War I. In 1927 he opened his own shoe shop, and gradually added men's hats and furnishings to it until 1935, when he opened a complete men's clothing store. The company grew and now has two locations.
Ashe, who lived at 6404 Inca Road, was president of the firm until his retirement in 1963. In 1969 he received the Advertising Club of Fort Worth's Good Taste in Advertising Award.
He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth Club, Panther City Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of Colonial country club.
He is survived by two brothers, Robert Q. Ashe of Tupelo, Miss., and Walter E. Ashe of Fort Worth; and three sisters, Mrs. T.C. Gower of Baldwyn, Miss., Mrs. W.E. Scruggs of Sherman Miss., and Mrs. L.W. Bright of jackson, MS.
