James Arthur Collins was born in Dunklin County MO to Marion Matthew Collins (1867 TN - 1913 MO) and his first Wife Nancy S. Morris. In 1913 James was the informant on his father's Missouri death certificate, and James would have been about 23 years old at that time. After Matt Collins' death James Alfred Collins headed out west to find work. When James registered for the draft in 1917 he was working in Tillman County Oklahoma, and he was drafted from that location. He was discharged in 1919 and returned to Missouri. He never married. In 1940 and in 1942, he was lodging with his half-sister Dovie Karnes as a farm laborer. It seems he was closer to his full brother William (or Willie) than his half-siblings and William E. Collins (of St. Louis) was written on his WW1 registration as someone who would always know his residence. Also Willie (of Farmington, MO) was the informant on James' Missouri death certificate.
