Joseph was born between 1819 and 1820. His county of origin and parents are unknown.

Joseph married Julia Williams. Their first child, Mary Ann, was born in Ireland about 1845. Joseph immigrated in 1846. It is unknown whether Julia and Mary Ann migrated with him or separately.

He and his wife had six other children in America: John about 1849 (died 1853), James F. in 1852, John Michael in 1854, Joseph William in 1856, Jane in 1859 and William in 1861. The children were born in Massachusetts and New Jersey.

The family eventually settled in Lambertville in 1861, and Joseph lived there for the rest of his life. He was a flax dresser.

Joe was naturalized as a US citizen on Nov. 7, 1864.

He died either of liver disease or of inflammation of the lungs. The records don't concur.

Joe had 25 grandchildren and 245 known additional descendants as of late 2007.
