It did take some time to determine that the date of death for this Thomas was indeed “my Thomas”, long story short, it is.
There are some conflicting documents regarding Thomas’ death. There are two death registers (not indices) available, one on Ancestry (link below) the other FamilySearch, and they are identical in nature until it records his age, Ancestry records it as “44”, FamilySearch as “4”. These registers both appear to be copies of the original (not at all uncommon).
To add to the confusion, he is recorded as being buried in “Calvary” of which there are two (Mount and New) though typically “Mount” is inferred when just “Calvary” is recorded. However I have spoken to Mount Cavalry office staff on numerous occasions and cross referenced any information on https://search.bostoncemetery.com/
a website that provides free access to locate burials online and neither the office staff or the website have a Thomas McCue of this date of death or residence listed.
After a wonderful staff member recently took pity on my plight and she did a little digging, and lo, what did she discover? If you’ve got “some other guys (first) name that just so happened to die on the same date” on your bingo card, well you’ve won. Mount Calvary themselves possess conflicting documents.
Their “internment register” correctly records the individual as Thomas but the “day book” then lists him as “John” as does the website. I can further support that this Thomas is “my Thomas” as he is buried with his two young children Patrick and James.
And if that isn’t enough, his death register offers two new names for his parents, “John and Bridget”, which directly opposes his 1865 marriage record of “James and Ann”, though I’d lean towards the chance of better accuracy with the marriage record.
Cemetery info lists his lat know address as 66 Russell St (which, shocker, conflicts with the death record) but is supported by an 1888 city directory. And an 1889 city directory his widow Margaret is recorded thusly
