Mr. Miller has had a major part in the development of the San Francisco Opera to its position of prominence
and acclaim. He first became a Director and a member of its Board of Governers in 1932. In 1933 he became
first vice-president, and in 1937 he became president, providing that leadership until he resigned to enter
the Army Air Force early in 1942. He served on the Board of Governers continuously from the time of his
original appointment, and in 1951 he was again called to the presidency of the organization, the position he
holds at the present time.
