Lois Mary Grover, 89, of Yarmouth Port, died Wednesday, January 20.

She was born to the late William and Rose Sant, August 8, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Newport, RI shortly thereafter. As the first of nine children, she spent her childhood helping her mother take care of her siblings, as well as greatly enjoying her time spent with her grandparents, aunts and uncles. Familial bonds were at the core of Lois’ being and it was these early bonds that guided her throughout her life. She liked to recount a trip she once took with her grandfather and the time they spent with one another traveling to Mississippi.

Lois was married to her beloved John for 50 years at the time of his passing. Together they raised two children, the late John Michael Grover and Christine Grover Blake. She worked for 30 years at the Newport Hospital, where she received accolades for her service and reliability. Upon her retirement, she and John moved to Topack, Arizona before eventually relocating to Cape Cod, to be closer to family.

Lois loved to cook, knit, and most importantly, spend time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren adored her as much as she adored them. She was often caught sneaking them treats that their parents wouldn’t have approved. Every moment spent with them was a blessing that she cherished. She just loved to laugh at all of their antics. Each year, they will think of her at Christmas as they hang the stockings that she knit for them.

In her later years, she always made time to pass her stories and memories onto the next generation. She was comforted by watching the birds at her feeder and the blossoming of her favorite flowers.

Lois is survived by her daughter Christine Blake, her husband Mark; her daughter in law Karen Grover; three siblings, Timothy Sant, Desley Parker Sant, and Billy Sant; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to Broadreach Hospice at 390 Orleans Rd, North Chatham, MA 02650

A private burial will be held at the Bourne National Cemetery.
