Frederick William Carl Hetz was born in 1886 in downtown Los Angeles and named after his father. Like his father Carl chose to use the name Charles for public records. In 1897 Carl and brothers Anton and Otto traveled with their mother to Germany, probably to visit relatives. The family's names are listed in the Ellis Island data base as citizens. When the family returned they lived in New York for awhile where Tessie, Herman and Fritz were born.

Carl was an electrician for most of his working life. At the beginning of the 20th Century he provided electrical wiring to homes in South Central Los Angeles.

Carl was also an amateur photographer, a hobby he passed on to his son Edward. He would develop the film in a closet. We have photos taken as early as 1910.

Carl like his father suffered from heart disease and died in 1940. And just like his father he died at the age of 54 years and 4 months.
