Ellen Belle Bierbaum Aaby, age 94, of Grand Meadow passed away February 11, 2021 at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center. Ellen was born on December 31, 1926 in Eyota, Minnesota. She grew up in Eyota and graduated from Eyota High School in 1944. Following high school Ellen went to Beauty School in Rochester, MN and worked there for a few years. Ellen married Hartwick Aaby on March 17, 1951. They made their home in Grand Meadow where she worked at Meadow Manor doing hair and working in the kitchen for many years. Ellen loved camping, playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, knitting and crocheting and playing sudoku.
Ellen is survived by one daughter, Susan (Robert) Wangsness, Susan’s best friend, Cindy (Bruce) Peterson, sister-in-law Ruth Bierbaum, two nephews, John F. (Nancy) Bierbaum and David Haugland, three nieces, Joyce (Jim) Doughty, Linda Dupont and Elaine Fountain, two fur grandbabies, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartwick Aaby, her parents, Frederick and Frieda Bierbaum, brother, John L. Bierbaum, sister, Marie Bierbaum, two nephews, Bill Bierbaum and Gene Haugland and brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Geneva Haugland. A very special thank you to Mayo Hospice and Grand Meadow Healthcare Center staff for your care and kindness.
Services will be Monday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
