Floyd Ernest Funkhouser, nicknamed Sonny, was the second child of five born to Ross Haven & Myrna Isabell Funkhouser. He had one sister and three brothers -- Betty Lou, Eugene Lee, Dennis Ross, & Robert Allen.

He spent a tour of duty in the Marine Corps in the early 1950s and returned home to the farm near Lakeville, Indiana where his parents were living at the time.

On August 25, 1956 Sonny married Wilhelmina Post in the United Church of The Brethren in Plymouth Indiana. "Willy" was born in Amsterdam Holland. They had three daughters, Linda Kay, Carla Ann, Andrea Sue.

After his folks moved to Florida in 1957, he and Willy moved there also, living in the Ocala area for a short period and then on to Alachua. He was a well liked person. Unfortunately his life was tragically cut shot at the age of 29 years on January 23, 1963 in Shands Teaching Hospital at the University of Florda in Gainesville after an automobile accident.

F.E. FUNKHOUSER, 29, of ALACHUA

Alachua-- Floyd Ernest Funkhouser, 29 year old service station operator, died yesterday morning from injuries received in a recent automobile accident.
The accident, a two car collision, occurred about 1 a.m. Saturday on State Road 25, *(US-441), a mile north of Alachua. Funkhouser died in the University of Florida Teaching Hospital, *(Shands), from severe head injuries.
Born May 12, 1933 in Peoria, Ill., Funkhouser was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross H. Funkhouser of this city.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wilhemina Post Funkhouser, and three children, Lynda Kay, Carla Ann, and Andrea Sue Funkhouser, all of Alachua; three brothers, Eugene, Dennis, and Robert Funkhouser, and one sister, Mrs. Betty Lou Gentry, Alachua.
Funeral services are planned at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Alachua Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Merchant officiating. Burial will will follow in the Newmansville Cemetery, under the direction of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Henry Moore, Marion Smith, Billy Pruitt, Harold Ingram, Franklin Copeland, and Jack Griffin.
The body will lie in state at the Funkhouser residence from 6 pm today until noon Saturday.
