Melvin E. Carlson

Melvin Eugene Carlson, 81, of Buffalo, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Melvin was born in Buffalo, KS on November 8, 1925, the son of Arthur and Olga (Anderson) Carlson.
He was united in marriage to Joyce Lorene Baker on April 6, 1952 in Chanute. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2004.
He was a farmer. He also enjoyed electrical repair and developing innovative electrical solutions.
Melvin enjoyed woodworking, making candlesticks, picture frames and furniture, and camping, roller skating, and snow skiing.
He served on the Production Credit Board and Co-op Board of Directors.
Melvin is survived by two daughters, Debbie Bearden and her husband Paul of Chanute and Peggy Smith and her husband Kern of Tulsa, OK; two sons, Mike Carlson and his wife Dorinda of Lenexa, KS and Rick Carlson and his wife Gina of Chanute; eight grandchildren, Mitch, Michelle, Ginger, Katie, Stacey, Kevin, Kenna and Kelli; a sister, Wilma Solomon of Newport News, Virginia and a brother Art Carlson of Overland Park, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce; and two sisters, Gladys Spong and Opal Erickson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the High Prairie Methodist Church. Burial will follow in High Prairie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita and may be left with the funeral home.
Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
