Sheridan, Feb. 1.--
L. C. Edwards, who has been confined to his bed for the past three months, passed from this life to the great beyond at 10:15 Tuesday evening, January 30, 1923. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon from the Episcopal church, conducted by Rev. John G. Spencer.

Mr. Edwards was one of the best known stockmen in Montana, and a resident of the state for 38 years. He was a native of Galax, Virginia, and was in his 57th year. He came to Montana in 1884, and first settled at Virginia City. Twelve years later he came to Sheridan and was active for a time in the mining camp at Leiterville. He then took charge of the Ruby hotel in Sheridan, with a livery stable in connection. He operated the stage route in the Ruby valley before the building of the railroad line. He was one of the most prominent horse and cattle fanciers in the state and for three years was in charge of the barns at the state fair. He was government stock inspector for many years, and at the time of the Boer war was inspector for the British government in the purchase of cavalry horses.

Mr. Edwards was a member of the Masonic order, and of the Elks' lodge at Virginia City. He is survived by his son, Fay Edwards, and his daughter, Miss Lura Edwards, both of Sheridan. His wife died in 1920.
