Born May 21, 1926, in Washington, Pa., he was a son of John M. and Helen Curran Porter Sr.
He retired as a Pennsylvania State Police officer after 34 years. He also had been a detective for the Butler County District Attorney's office.
Mr. Porter was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, the Butler County Law Enforcement Association and the International Association for Identification, Pennsylvania Division.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Elks Lodge 1771 and St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach. He was a previous a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.
During World War II, he served with the Navy in the South Pacific.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and his love for his family is his greatest legacy.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy McQuay Porter, whom he married Aug. 18, 1951; two sons, Daniel Porter of Prospect and Michael Porter of Cranberry Township; two daughters, Denise Bintrim of Harmony and Lisa Barnhart of Butler; and a sister, Margaret Jane McGlone of Dearborn, Mich. Nine grandchildren, Tyler, McKenna and Teague Bintrim, Hannah and Quay Barnhart and Carly and Bennett and Maura and Gillian Porter, also survive.
A son, James J. Porter, and a brother, John M. Porter Jr., preceded him in death.
