Howard was the son of Herbert L. Amberson and Flora Victoria Hames. Howard lived in Alabama until about 1914 when the family move to Texas. Howard was one of 9 children that Herbert and Victoria had.
Howard never married; serving during WWII and was part of the Landing at Normandy. He told Joyce, his sister that it was terrible. They were running from the boats to the beach and men were dropping all around him and he was not hurt. He did receive a purple cross for a relatively minor wound in his left arm which kept him at the field hospital for two or three days.--this was his only injury.
