He was the son of Jacob B. Solt and Elizabeth Fromme Solt.
Per the 1900 Census for Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, he married Bertie Haller about 1893.
Per the 1910 Census for Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, they were the parents of seven children with six living.
Per the obituary for his wife, Bertie Haller dated December 1, 1934, they were the parents of 10 living children.

James Elmer Solt, Frederick's pioneer automobile dealer and one of its oldest citizens and outdoor sportsmen died Sunday evening at 6:45 o'clock at his home, 403 Magnolia Avenue. He was 88 years of age and death was due to complications following an immediate illness of six weeks.

Born in Center Hall, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Jacob B. and Elizabeth Frome Solt, both natives of Pennsylvania he was a graduate of Ohio Normal University, Ada, Ohio and moved to Frederick when he was 21 years of age. He soon afterward began participating in the business life of the community and the ensuing years made him well known first with bicycles, then motorcycles and then with sales and serving in the then infant automobile industry. He was Frederick's first garage man. He was equally well known as a locksmith and upon retirement from all active business, served about eight years as a Desk Sergeant in the Frederick Police Department back in the thirties.

Was Outdoor Sportsman
Mr. Solt was an ardent outdoor sportsman being particularly found of hunting and fishing. He was active in the formation and was first President of the local chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He continued to follow these hobbies until just a dew years ago.

Mr. Solt's wife, Mrs. Bertie Haller Solt died in 1934. Surviving are the following nine children: Miss Elsie M. Solt and Mrs. Horace H.C. Albaugh, both at home; William H. Solt, Mrs. Donald E. Utterback and Mrs. Freddric Scotto, all of Frederick; Mrs. Roland F. Adkins and Mrs. Carl Kustner, both of Arbutus, Maryland; Charles F. Solt, Middletown and J. Earl Solt, present in California…
