Billy Hampton Wells passed away February 13, 2021 at UMMC in Jackson, MS. He was born on December 19, 1937 in McComb, MS to Earl Wells and Aylene Burris Wells.

He grew up in the Smithdale community near McComb. Billy resided there until his graduation from Mars Hill High School in 1956. Billy had a number of jobs before he moved to Yazoo City where he joined the Yazoo City Police Force. While living in Yazoo City, he met and married his wife of over 50 years, Glenda Sligh Wells. He had a dream of owning his own trucking company which came true and for many years he traveled the country. In later years, he hauled grain for local farmers until his retirement due to health reasons. Billy kept in touch with the many friends he made while traveling as well as former classmates.

If you were ever a friend of his, you were forever a friend. He was an avid Ole Miss fan along with his whole family.

Other than his wife he is survived by daughters, Krista Palich (John) of Brandon, Kay Wells Bradley (Bubba) of Yazoo City, and son Brad Wells of Yazoo City. Granddaughters Karen Thomas (Jared) and Emily Lee (Ryan) of Brandon. Gracie Wells, Ann Hampton Wells, and Rivers Wells of Yazoo City and one grandson, Jack Wells of Yazoo City. Sisters Bobbie Dunaway, Gloria Williams, Paulette Carruth, and Sharon Coon, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Parkview Church of God Sunday February 21, 2021 under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 with funeral service and burial following.
