Wanda was born on Nov. 28, 1927, on a farm near Deep River. Her beloved parents, Sam and Drusilla (Green) Hicklin welcomed her as the youngest of their 10 children. When Wanda was 2 years old, they moved to a farm about five miles west of What Cheer, where her parents were born and raised. She attended two country schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1945. She earned a teaching certificate from William Penn College in Oskaloosa and taught grades 1 through 8 in a one-room schoolhouse.

She married Forrest VanBenthuysen and spent many years moving her family from place to place with her husband?s pipeline work. Her six children were born in four different states and Canada. She had a home in Phoenix, Ariz., until moving to New Sharon in 1965, then to Moravia in 1967 where she remained for 28 years. She moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1991 after the death of her husband.

In 1995, she moved to the Palm Springs, Calif., area. She married Alexander Krotoff in 1996, a good and kind companion. Wanda enjoyed dancing, crocheting, many types of collectibles, Mexican food, dark chocolate Hersheys, word-find puzzles, the Waltons, bright colors and gaudy jewelry. But when asked about her favorite things, her answer was, ?Always, my family.?

Wanda went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18, after an eight-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis, a deadly and debilitating lung disease.
