Bruce Meyers was the designer and builder of the original VW based Dune Buggy.
Old Red was the world's first VW based dune buggy and was first built in May 1964 and was purely for Bruce's own use and fun racing across the California sand dunes. After a lot of interest Bruce decided to try and build a few more. Only 12 of the first buggies were ever built before their high price forced a slight redesign of the lower part of the body so it could easily fit straight onto a shortened VW Beetle chassis.
Meyers died of a blood disease called myelodysplasia.
