First Lieutenant, United States Air Force. He tragically passed away while doing what he was happiest to do and proudest of; serving his country as part of the 50th Flying Training Squadron in Columbus, Mississippi. Scot was one of two pilots who lost their lives when their T-38C Talon crashed during a cross country training mission to Tallahassee, Florida. The two pilots were on the first leg of an overnight training mission. Scot was the Instructor Pilot--the other fatality was a student pilot from the Japanese Air Self Defense Force, Renshi Uesaki, 25. The jet crashed about 5:30pm near Montgomery Regional Airport in west Montgomery, Alabama, in a wooded area.

Scot was born at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu, and he grew up in Pekin, Indiana. Scot attended Eastern High School, graduating in 2014. While in high school, Scot excelled at football and baseball. Scot also graduated with academic and technical honors. Additionally, he attended Prosser Vocational School for aviation where he received his private pilot’s license in 2014. Then, Scot attended Indiana State University (2014 to 2018) where he was a leader for the ROTC program as the 218th Cadet Wing Commander and a Cadet Training Assistant (CTA) during the summer before his senior year.

Throughout his life, Scot enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, playing sports, hiking, shooting guns and bows, and (most importantly) flying. Scot touched countless lives and will be remembered most by his “beautiful” mustache, positive attitude, infectious smile and laugh, “damn good lookin’ truck”, and ability to live life to the fullest each and every day.

Scot will be forever missed and loved by the ones he left behind, but Scot would want us all to
“search every day for something that burns that fire in your chest to wake up every morning
running faster, pushing further, and working harder than the day prior.”

Scot is survived by his wife Audra Dial Ames of West Point, Mississippi; his mother Ginger Bailey Ames and father Scot Wayne Ames Sr. of Pekin, Indiana; his sister Courtni (Zach) LaDuke, nieces Felicity and Gwen, and nephew Evan of Borden, Indiana; his grandmother Lyla Dianne McLean of New Albany, Indiana; his grandfather George W. Bailey Jr. of Madison, Indiana; his grandparents Gerald and Patricia Ames of Henryville, Indiana; and his great-grandparents Doris and Emmett Wycoff of Otisco, Indiana.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Eastern High School, New Pekin, Indiana, burial followed at New Chapel Cemetery, Underwood, Indiana. Military Honors and the Military Fly Over were conducted in collaboration with the Columbus Air Force Base Honor Guard and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard.
