Lloyd J. Waner, Jr., 87, of Amelia Island, Florida, died on Saturday, February 20, 2021. He was born September 27, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Fannie Mae and Lloyd Waner. Lloyd's father is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and was nicknamed, "Little Poison," alongside his uncle, "Big Poison." Lloyd grew up shadowing his father on the baseball fields, where he served as bat boy and was adored as the players' "little mascot." He enjoyed the game of baseball, but he found a passion in his golf game. At the age of 12, he beat his grandfather and was never invited to golf with him again. Many fellow golfers at Long Point Golf Club may tell you the same thing today! Lloyd served our country in the US Army, and later studied at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a bachelor's degree in geology. From there, he launched into oil and gas exploration, and founded Crudequest, Inc., an industry leasing company, where he worked until his final hours. Lloyd was passionate about many things, including reading all genres, travel, fishing, his grandchildren, and, most especially, his wife for the last 12 years, Lou Simmons Waner. The couple enjoyed life on Amelia Island Plantation, where he was a member of the Chapel, and would walk endless miles in the natural beauty with his Silky Terrier, Pepper. A host of family in Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas will miss Lloyd's contagious laugh, humble spirit, and admiration. He leaves behind his wife, Lou C. Simmons of Amelia Island and her children, Vann (Stacy) Simmons, Greg (Julie) Simmons and Allyson (Brian) Etheridge, as well as Lou's six grandchildren. In Oklahoma and Texas, his surviving family included his children, Elizabeth Waner, Laura (Bill) Uzzell, Andy Waner, his sister, Lydia Freeman; and his grandchildren, Emma Dorn, Brittney Waner, Shaun Cobb, Ryan Cobb; and four great-grandchildren, Harley Warner, Madelynn Cobb, Kori Cobb, and Grayson Cobb. The Amelia Island family gathered for a private memorial, and Mr. Waner was laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
