Former Presidio County judge and U.S. Border Patrol deputy chief, Jerry C. Agan, passed away in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, on February 16, 2021, after a two-week courageous battle with COVID pneumonia. Burial services were held March 11, 2021, at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
A contingent of Border Patrol agents from the Marfa Sector and Miami Sector stood as honor guards at his service, along with honor guards from the U.S. Coast Guard, American Legion, Patriot Riders and the Masonic Lodge.
Jerry was born in Richmond, California, on December 17, 1944, and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1963-1970. He retired as deputy chief, Marfa Sector, U.S. Border Patrol, after 28 years of service. He served as a civilian police officer with the United Nations mission to Kosovo 1998-1999 and was elected Presidio County judge from 2000-2010.
Jerry attended North River Church in Parrish, Florida, was a member of American Legion Post 325 in Ellenton, Florida, and the Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 412 in Bradenton, Florida.
Judge Agan is survived by his wife, Cookie Brisbin-Agan; four daughters, Julie, Beth, Cyndi and Sarah; two bonus daughters, Tonya and Kelli; sister, Elaine; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends beyond measure.
Jerry lovingly supported his wife with all her Legion projects, especially Wreaths Across America. He was a man of honor and was the epitome of the Border Patrol motto of "Honor First."
His smile, sense of humor and kind heart will truly be missed.
