Ernest C. Mueller Jr., age 86 of Cedar Springs, passed away at home with his loved ones on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Born August 18, 1934 to Ernest C. and Alma (Kukuk) Mueller Sr. at home in Tawas City, Michigan. He attended Tawas City Schools until 1951, and in March 1953 joined the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956 as a Staff Sergeant. On April 30, 1960, he married Teresa Guoan and were happily married just short of 54 years.

Ernie is survived by his children, Catherine (Dusty) Sult of Dowling, Lynn Mueller of Cedar Springs, Jean (Deb Waldrop) Smith of Wyoming, and Neil Mueller of Cutlerville; grandchildren, Michael (Corey) Grotenrath, Daniel (Christina) Grotenrath, Jennifer Haskin, Kimberly (Robert Morehouse) Smith, and Michelle (Tyler) Magoon; great-granddaughter, Olivia Johnson; brother, Leonard Mueller; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa and sister, Nora Jean (Franklin) Phillips.

Ernie was a lifetime member of Local 324 Operating Engineers. In his heavy equipment operating career, he worked for B.H. Sargent, Riverside Sand and Gravel, and Anlaan Corp. and retired in 2010.

Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Hurst Funeral Home. Private family services will follow, and will be livestreamed at www.hurstfh.com. Public graveside services with full military honors will be held in the spring at Courtland Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
