Ralph W. Holt, 88, of Rock, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, March 1, 2021 at his home.

Born January 21, 1933 on his parents’ farm west of Atlanta, Kansas, he was the son of Calvin C. and Mable E. (Lanier) Holt. He attended Prairie View rural schools and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1951. After high school, he worked with his father on the farm until joining the United States Army. While in the Army, Ralph served in a radar station in Alaska. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Atlanta and went to work at Boeing in Wichita.

Ralph was united in marriage to Geraldine “Marie” Hursh on March 29, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Watonga, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home on a farm west of Atlanta, before moving to their farm in 1959. Ralph worked at Trico in Augusta for a short time and made his life farming with his wife of 63 years, Marie.

He was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Ralph served on the township board, the school board, the rural water board, and as the sexton of the Wilmot Cemetery. He also volunteered as a 4-H Club leader and a youth baseball coach. He enjoyed puttering around in his garden, and watching and feeding birds. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed making slideshows. Ralph and Marie enjoyed attending their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids concerts, school events, sporting events, piano recitals, and all other activities they were involved in.

Ralph’s family includes his wife Marie Holt; his children Kelly Holt; Keith Holt and wife, Rebecca; Kenny Holt; Karen Hopper and husband, Rick; his brothers, Raymond Holt, Leonard Holt, and Eldon Holt; his grandchildren, Valerie, Brian, Autumn, Conrad, Carson; and his great grandchildren, Layton, Lilly, Riley, Bain, Ayden, Olivia, and Ava.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a brother Glen Holt, and two sisters, Gladys Holt Davis and Nancy Holt Finney.

Graveside funeral services with military committal honors will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Wilmot Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Ralph’s name for the Atlanta First Responders. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
