Marlys A. Schafer, 84, of Willmar, died Monday, March 1st at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Her memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 13th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to her service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. www.hafh.org
Marlys Ann Schafer was born June 3, 1936, to Edward and Ann (Sandberg) Agre in Olivia. She was baptized and later confirmed at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia. Marlys graduated from Olivia High School in 1954. On February 11, 1956, Marlys was united in marriage to Elroy Schafer at Cross of Calvary. To this union four children were born: David, Debra, Daniel and Deana. Following their marriage, they lived in Olivia until 1963, Great Falls, MT from 1963-1966, and moved to Willmar in 1966 where they made their home. Marlys worked as a bookkeeper for Beverly's where she worked for 30 years, retiring in 2011. Marlys was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she enjoyed helping as Choir Director and also a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed spending time at Big Kandi lake where she often fished. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening and listening to music and volunteering with the Girl Scouts.
Marlys is survived by her children: Dr. David (Loretta) Schafer, Debra (Martin) Rose, Daniel Schafer, and Deana (Tom) Conway ; grandchildren: Paul Schafer, Wyatt Schafer and Dylan Schafer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy; parents, and grandson, Taylor Rose.
